Statement on the Two-Year Anniversary of Liu Xiaobo’s Passing
Students for a Free Tibet Canada mourns the passing of celebrated writer, activist, and Nobel Laureate, Liu Xiaobo two years on from his death in 2017. A fervent defender of human rights and liberties in China and around the world, Liu Xiaobo is an example for us all that humility and determination can make the world a more fair and just place. His work inspires us as we fight for the freedoms and liberties of Tibet and we stand in solidarity with those fighting for the same values in China. Students for a Free Tibet Canada believes in non-violent resistance and throughout his life, Liu Xiaobo proved that non-violent action can change the world. As HH The 14th Dalai Lama said: “Although he is no longer living, the rest of us can best pay honour to Liu Xiaobo by carrying forward the principles he has long embodied, which would lead to a more harmonious, stable and prosperous China.” Today, we remember the work Liu Xiaobo did throughout his life and honour his legacy by continuing to fight for the values his work embodied.
